Hi! I specialize in teaching English language (including EFL) and French, in which I achieved A*s in at GCSE and an A in A-level French. I have a huge love for learning languages, reading books, and accumulating random linguistic facts. Did you know that the action we all know as ‘hoovering’ could have been called ‘Spanglering’ instead had the inventor not sold his vacuum cleaner device to William H. Hoover? More importantly, I love to help my students progress in their studies and overcome hurdles in their journey to academic success. As a tutor, my job is to not only alleviate any fears you may be facing with your subject but also to help you find enjoyment in the process of learning itself. Through creating an engaging learning environment and using a tailored teaching approach, I aim to show that anything can be achieved with the right mindset and support. I am enthusiastic about the motto “practice makes perfect”, and I encourage questions and mistakes, as these enable us to improve and grow. Whether you need help with going through past papers, practising exam techniques or just refreshing over content, I am confident I can provide the support you need to reach your full potential and accomplish your goals.

DBS available.

I have been tutoring for 3 years now to students in Primary school up to  GCSE levels. When I previoudly worked at a tuition centre for 2 years, I helped ks3 students revise for final exams as well as younger pupils prepare for SATs and entry into grammar schools. I also taught ESOL students from a wide variety of different backgrounds, helping to boost their confidence in written and spoken skills. For example, I had one-to-one lessons with a Year 4 Chinese girl who was mildly autistic, and aided her with reading comprehensions, essay writing, grammar and spellings. Initially I was told that she was a very sensitive child who would frequently cry, but through constant encouragement and building rapport in our sessions she soon came out of her shell and was excited to come to lessons.

Currently I teach both English and French lessons online. One of my proudest achievements was receiving news that my French GCSE student had jumped from a level 5 to 8 in her mocks! Whilst she was very unsure of her abilities in our very first session, I helped her to break down tricky grammar concepts into simpler chunks and guided her with repeated practise.

Over the years, I have used various techniques in order to help my students better learn and understand the required material, according to the type of learner (i.e., visual, auditory, tactile kinesthetic, etc.) so that I can accommodate towards their specific needs. For example, for learners that tend to be more visual, the most useful strategies include highlighting, flash card-making, and using pictures/videos to help commit important information to memory. For students that are auditory learners, using acronyms, mnemonic devices, rhymes, and songs generally work best. My teaching centres around creating a positive and collaborative atmosphere as well as making use of various technologies to ensure the learners are actively engaged. I have found that having a drive for learning has made a big difference to outcomes in my own academic journey, therefore I strive to cultivate this with my students by showing them different perspectives that exist on the same subject and encouraging them to develop their own viewpoints. This not only helps to spark their intellectual curiosity, but it enables them to develop their critical thinking skills too.
