About
Have you ever wondered how lotus leaves repel water so well? While studying the International Baccalaureate (IB), I wrote my extended essay in biology on the hydrophobic properties of lotus leaves and their practical applications. As a Biotechnology student at Imperial College, I am incredibly passionate about using nature’s technologies to benefit humanity. During my studies, I developed a deep understanding of biology and chemistry and also honed my skills in economics and English. With my vast experience in different models of education, having studied both in India (IGCSE – 8A*) and Singapore (IB – 43/45), I am capable, dedicated and eager to share my knowledge and experience with others. As a tutor, I aim to help you unlock your full potential and achieve your academic goals. I believe in creating personalized lesson plans tailored to your unique needs, using a variety of educational resources to aid your learning. I place a strong emphasis on comprehension rather than memorization, and aim to use science-backed techniques to help you form links between subjects for a more holistic learning experience.
Experience
Previously, I spent 3 months volunteering to tutor children with special needs such as ADHD and Dyslexia. I taught English, Mathematics and Computers. I used multisensory learning techniques, peer mentoring, and positive reinforcement to create a supportive learning environment. This experience allowed me to develop skills such as compassion, patience and empathy towards my tutored students, as I experienced solving difficult situations quickly and effectively. While I have no other tutoring experience, I was tutored through high school and am well versed in effective learning techniques and plans.
Teaching method
I believe people learn in different ways, including instruction, observation and practice. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to recognize my students' unique learning styles and preferences and thereby tailor my methods to match each student's learning style.
Personally, I learn through understanding followed by active engagement especially including quizzes and past paper practice. I would apply this in my teaching approach and create an engaged and comfortable environment to encourage students to actively participate. I am also keen on using visual aids, demonstrations and real-world examples to help students understand complex concepts.
I believe students can develop a love of learning and achieve academic success if they are in a supportive environment and strive to create a personal connection with them to foster a positive learning relationship.
