About
Hi, I’m Lavanya and I am currently studying Law at LSE. With a background in Law, I have a particular forte in essay-writing subjects, having also achieved A*s in my History and English A-levels. However, more than the attainment of grades , I believe interest in a subject is what truly allows one to succeed. As a tutor, I aim to encourage students by sharing the enthusiasm I have for the subjects I teach, as well as providing additional resources and reading materials.
I have had extensive experience tutoring which has shaped my teaching methods, as detailed below. I understand that the learning process as a student can sometimes be daunting and challenging, but I take a purposefully calm and gentle approach so that students are not afraid to ask for help when needed.
I look forward to working with you!
Experience
I have had extensive experience tutoring Maths and English at a tutoring company for 11 students for over 3 years. Working with numerous students has allowed me to gain a diverse range of experience and adapt my teaching methods according to varying abilities. I have also learnt that as a tutor knowing the content is not enough if students can’t follow my thought process. Through my experience, I have developed strong communication skills, explaining concepts in a clear and concise manner so students can concentrate and learn effectively whilst I am teaching,
Having had the privilege to attend a prestigious selective grammar school in London and to pursue higher education at LSE, I am incredibly grateful to have received an excellent quality of education beyond the national curriculum. I am confident in teaching students to a high level, encouraging students to not just study but excel in their subjects by emulating the style of teaching I was fortunate enough to receive.
Teaching method
Building a positive rapport is my foremost priority so that I understand my students’ needs. I want to ensure that my students feel comfortable to express any challenges they are facing through a personable approach.
Although I teach the humanities, I believe there is still a ‘basic formula’ to be applied to essays. I will make sure students are familiar with the fundamentals of the subject at hand whether it is understanding how to make notes efficiently, learning the necessary content or following the best structure for essays.
I will then proceed to provide some constructive feedback on previous essays, create essay plans during class and provide additional resources such as my own exemplary essays/notes or academic articles during class. Having gauged the student’s ability, I will then proceed to tailor my teaching methods accordingly, challenging students to engage in more deeper analysis of themes, context and the content where possible.
For students with exams coming up, I will make sure a skeleton timetable is in place well and communicated to parents well before the exam period, so that all content is covered and students do as little last minute cramming as possible.
I hope that my highly specialised approach will be able to help you!
